Your journey from a career in the medical field to launching multiple successful ventures is both inspiring and bold. What was the defining moment that made you decide to pivot into entrepreneurship, and how did you overcome the fear of stepping into completely new industries?
Well, to be very transparent, it was because I wanted to dictate my own schedule. And I know being on someone else’s time and clock you are very rarely able to do that. So that was #1 and having a partner that is into entrepreneurship pushed me to want to work for myself as well. Just seeing how his day to day operations were I knew I had to make some changes. I never really had the fear of being an entrepreneur because to be honest I always had a career I could fall back on at any time! Being in the medical field you’ll always have or find a job!
Your ability to captivate and entertain audiences is well-known. How have you used your storytelling skills to build a strong community around your brand?
Just to continue to be myself! Either you are going to love me or hate me but what you’re going to get will always be my authentic self.
Your approach to business is not just about profit but also about building a community and creating a lasting impact. Can you share some of the core values that drive your brands, and how you’ve managed to infuse those values into everything you do, from cosmetics to artist management?
Being patient, that’s number 1 because you want everything to sell out as soon as you drop and that’s the same thing with artists. They want their record sales to do numbers the same day and sometimes that doesn’t always happen. Some days and months are better than others but it’s all about patience and staying committed and consistent.
What have you been working on as of late?
I’ve been working on a Non-Profit with my partner that will cater to the youth starting in Atlanta, Ga and then we will move towards Louisiana.
Can you share some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your first business and how you overcame them?
Biggest challenge at first was definitely not meeting the goal I set out for myself. So of course it made me discouraged a bit but having a supportive team/environment around always makes things better. Even when you’re feeling your worst about something.
Where do you see your entrepreneurial journey taking you in the next 5–10 years?
Building bigger brands for myself.
Are there any new industries you’re interested in exploring?
Yes, me and a friend are working on podcasting! Because we have things to say! And also jumping more into my cooking! I think I’m a great cook. My significant other and my son’s plates are spotless every night I cook. I definitely said it’s time for me to bring more attention to my cooking! But my whole family are great cooks. I don’t know who can’t really cook. My grandmother has 13 kids so all of her kids and grandkids can cook. I don’t know about them great grands now. They are the younger generation. They are a little spoiled with Chick-fil-A … haha!
What is a super fun fact about yourself that many people are not aware of?
I like to sing around the house a lot! My son always tells me I should go on stage with his dad. lol
As a mother, entrepreneur, and community leader, you wear many hats. How do you navigate the challenges of balancing your personal life with your diverse business pursuits, and what advice would you give to other women looking to do the same?
Well like I said at first, I’m a mother first! My son’s commitments come before anything because I want to always show him love and support… a lot of kids don’t get that support all the time and it makes them give up. Then immediately after everything else comes so wherever the day takes me business wise once CJs over with…I do get overwhelmed though! Some days I just crash. The advice I give is to make sure that you have a strong support system, that’s always good to have! It helps make everything run smoothly especially with little ones. And just DO IT! I had to learn to just DO IT! If it works, it works but if it doesn’t, don’t give up! Just try it again and add a different ingredient to the recipe that you didn’t have last time.
