Dr. Trenice Brinkley: Guiding Educators from Teaching to Thriving in Entrepreneurship

By Tammy Reese | Saturday, October 26, 2024 | 12:50 PM ET

With over 15 years of experience in education, Dr. Trenice Brinkley is on a mission to help teachers break free from the traditional classroom setting and embrace entrepreneurship. After witnessing the challenges within the educational system, Dr. Brinkley founded HER Professional Consulting, where she guides educators in leveraging their skills to build successful businesses. Through her innovative workshops, coaching programs, and upcoming podcast Beyond the Bells & Battles, Dr. Brinkley is empowering teachers to transform their classroom expertise into entrepreneurial ventures, providing them with the tools to thrive beyond the school walls.

Please tell us about your background and current endeavors in the education field.

I’ve been in the game for over 15 years, rocking it in education, mainly in English Language Arts. I’ve worked in multiple school districts, and let me tell you, I’ve seen it all, the highs and the struggles that come with teaching. But as time went on, my path shifted. Now, I’m focused on helping educators break out of the traditional system and into entrepreneurship. Through HER Professional Consulting, I’m showing teachers how to flip their classroom skills into successful business ventures. It’s all about stepping into your own power and making moves that create a life you love.

We are thrilled to learn about your mission of helping educators leverage their skills to successfully transition from the classroom to entrepreneurship. What initiatives or projects are you involved in this effort? What can you share with us?

I’m really excited about my upcoming podcast Beyond the Bells & Battles, dropping in November 2024. This platform is all about inspiring teachers who are ready to leave the classroom behind and boss up as entrepreneurs. I also run workshops like “Pack Up My Classroom: How to Start Your Own Education Consulting Firm,” where I break down how to take your skills as an educator and turn them into a consulting business. And my VIP Day+ coaching program? It’s next-level. I’m working one-on-one with teachers to help them build their businesses, create passive income, and still have time for their lives outside of work.

In what ways does your journey and guidance provide a roadmap for teachers looking to thrive beyond the educational system?

My journey is proof that teachers can turn their skills into something bigger. I help teachers make that mindset shift from “just a teacher” to “I’m a whole business.” I guide them step by step through using the skills they’ve mastered in the classroom, like communication, leadership, and time management, and applying them to their own business ventures. Through personalized coaching, strategic planning, and using media to their advantage, I’m giving them the game plan to not just survive but thrive outside of education. I’m all about helping them work smart and live more by showing them how to take those skills and flip them into profitable ventures.

What else would you like our readers to know about you?

I want people to know that I’m all about purpose and passion. At the end of the day, it’s about creating something that matters and gives you freedom. Through HER Professional Consulting and my four books on public relations, branding, and entrepreneurship, I’ve been able to help educators realize they can live their dream life without sacrificing their purpose. I want teachers to know they don’t have to choose between being financially successful and doing what they love. You can have both, and I’m here to help show you how.

Many educators may feel apprehensive about leaving the classroom for entrepreneurship. What advice would you give to teachers who fear taking that leap?

I get it, stepping out of that safety zone, a structured environment can feel like jumping into the deep end. But here’s my advice: start small. You don’t have to go all-in right away. Try offering tutoring or consulting on the side and see how your skills translate to the business world. Understand that the things you’re doing in the classroom like time management, leadership, creativity are exactly what you need to succeed as an entrepreneur. Don’t be afraid to get a mentor or find someone who can help guide you. Most importantly, remember you deserve to live a life where you’re calling the shots, working smart, and still having time to enjoy life. Entrepreneurship can give you that freedom, you just gotta take that first step.
