Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the voices, stories, and contributions of women who dare to dream and lead with intention. Among them is Akilah Roberts, an entrepreneur and author who turned her lifelong passion for writing into a powerful platform for self-expression and empowerment. Through her business, Phenomenal Expressions, she not only brings her own stories to life but also helps others find their voices through book coaching, editing, and publishing services.
For Akilah, writing is more than just words on a page — it’s a tool for transformation. Whether she’s guiding aspiring authors, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, or expanding literacy resources for all ages, her mission is clear: to help others define their purpose and bring their visions to life. Her journey from educator to business owner is one of inspiration, proving that it’s never too late to chase a dream. As she continues to uplift and motivate others, Akilah Roberts is leaving an indelible mark on the literary world.
Women’s History Month is about honoring the contributions of women throughout history. How does your journey as an author and entrepreneur add to this legacy?
Akilah: I’m in year #4 with eight books under my titled business Phenomenal Expressions. I have helped multiple businesses gain followers with promotion. I have helped edit authors' books. I have been the go to for publishing and an overall museum of information for others. My life contributions have been to be a helping hand and lending ear to those struggling. I have now developed a writing system where we discuss those hot topics as a therapeutic release.

After 15 years in the workforce, you decided to follow your childhood dream. What was the defining moment that made you take that leap?
Akilah: The pandemic definitely pushed me towards following this path of entrepreneurship. Schools were closing and I wanted to still give back to the kids. This is why my first published book was a children’s book titled Olivia’s School Choice to help influence a new reform of how the education system should be ran.
Phenomenal Expressions is centered around purpose and expression. What can you tell us about your company and what does “purpose” mean to you?
Akilah: The purpose of Phenomenal Expressions entails a lot of different aspects. It’s formed to teach others to go after what they want. To express themselves and find healing. And to promote, uplift and motivate. Finding a purpose in life makes it more fulfilling. Don’t just exist, find your “why” and stick to that and add on to it.
In what ways do you help others find their purpose?
Akilah: I think a lot of people can agree that once they see something nice or creative, it puts a spark in them. They start to think about the goals they want to accomplish and they get motivated. I post a lot within my private group and all my social media outlets to help others get excited and motivated to do what they desire.
You provide book coaching and editing services to help other writers find their voices. What is the most rewarding part of guiding aspiring authors on their journeys?
Akilah: I love to read, so being able to be the first to read their work and give my personal review and recommendations is rewarding. It makes me feel like “I know what I’m doing”.
Your motto, “Speak it, Write it, Do it,” encourages action. What advice would you give to women who struggle with turning their visions into reality?
Akilah: Learning how to communicate and advocate for self is important. Most of the time, ideas come to you out of nowhere. Instead of holding it in I suggest saying exactly what comes to mind. Once you hear it out loud ask yourself “does that sound like something I want to do or can do or am I just talking.”

Women’s History Month is also about looking toward the future. What is your long-term vision for Phenomenal Expressions?
Akilah: I have a running series on hot topics to be produced yearly. The series is titled “The Miseducation of Becoming an Adult”.
What else is vital for our readers to know about you at this time?
Akilah: I am currently doing Document Translation in different languages to appeal to other races. This includes flyers, books and magazines.
If you could give one piece of advice to young women who aspire to be authors or entrepreneurs, what would it be?
Akilah: Let’s chat! I can be reached via email at akilahexpressions@gmail.com. Also on Facebook at Phenomenal Expressions and on Instagram @quietstormauthor.
