On a crisp December evening, Southwest Guilford High School in High Point, North Carolina, buzzed with excitement as former student-athlete and current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Aaron Wiggins returned for a monumental occasion: the retirement of his high jersey and to be inducted in the Wesleyan Christian Academy (WCA) Hall of Fame, Wiggins' alma mater. The ceremony took place at Southwest Guilford in order for Wiggins to attend his youngest brother's, Zacch Wiggins, game with WCA, who was playing in a tournament.
The media center packed with WCA administrators, staff, family, and fans, radiated a sense of pride and nostalgia. A framed "Wiggins jersey (#12) was unveiled as a testament to the legacy he left behind.
Wiggins, a standout during his time at Wesleyan Christian Academy, was known for his athleticism, leadership, and work ethic. His accomplishments on the court were matched only by his character off it. Graduating in 2018, he propelled his team to numerous victories and garnered accolades that eventually led him to the University of Maryland, where he became a key player for the Terrapins before declaring for the NBA.
In his remarks during the ceremony, Wiggins expressed gratitude to the school, his parents and the community that shaped him.“Wesleyan will always hold a special place in my heart,” Wiggins said. “The lessons I learned here—both on and off the court—prepared me for the challenges ahead. I’m honored and humbled, but this isn’t just about me. It’s about the team, coaches, and mentors who believed in me every step of the way.”
